Financial Results & Performance

In 2016, U.S. aerospace sales (NAICS 3364) declined 0.9% to $284.8 billion, while net income was down as much as 11.7% at $24.6 billion. This marks the first decline in aerospace sales since 2002. In 2016, stockholders' equity fell to $78.4 billion, down 4.6% from 2015. This has caused the equity ratio of the industry to fall to 21.1% from 23.3% the year before. The U.S. aerospace industry is performing well despite declining sales and profits in 2016, however, the financial strength (equity) continues to fall mainly due to debt ($105.3B) growing faster than assets ($415.2B). Leverage is growing rapidly but is still not at an alarming level with a debt ratio of 25.4%.
